My coding journey started with a sponsored coding boot camp in 2019. For me, coding was new. I became obsessed, it consumed 8 hours of my day. In-person classes for 16 weeks. And to my delight, subsequently, I was offered a position to join Cognizant as an Associate Developer after successfully completing the bootcamp. All my troubles disappeared, I was coding and exploring database management with SQL. However, as quickly as this amazing opportunity came, it was taken away during the pandemic.
In 2020, I started anew. Beginning again to find myself placement within a company to keep learning Java, HTML, CSS, MySQL, AWS, and SDLC. After half a year of searching and working in odd tech jobs, I found a place that would put me through another intense bootcamp with the potential of getting hired. This time it was 12 weeks of online Full-Stack Java Development (with the added bonus of new connections). And I was able to receive an offer with Infosys as Senior Tech Support. This gave me an opportunity to work with a large insurance company’s SQL ticketing system.
Surprisingly, I also received another opportunity to become a teaching assistant with 2U. This company employed a few of my bootcamp colleagues. I was so happy to help be part of the educational staff in 2U’s Java Bootcamp. Knowing the stress and dedication it takes to be in a bootcamp, I leaned into helping as much as possible with this role.
In early 2023 Infosys no longer had a place for me. Now fueled by my passion for Java and armed with a wealth of connections, I look to join like-minded companies that share common goals. Like valuing learning, pushing boundaries in tech, supporting people, and having a safe place to grow.
